Government Expands Curfew

Panama expanded its country-wide curfew from 5 pm to 5 am, toughening measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Exempt from the restriction are public forces, emergency, Ministry of Health, Social Security Fund, Fire Department, Civil Protection Service, Authority of Consumer Protection and Competition Defense, Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers, Waste Authority, Sume-911 and Panama Canal Authority staff, as well as deputies, mayors and representatives.

Hospitals, laboratories, veterinary clinics, pharmacies, selective and public transportation for health and work reasons, the Panama Metro and Mi Bus, gas stations, supermarkets, self-service and delivery restaurants, hotels and media will continue to operate.

To date, more than 900 people have been arrested for violating the curfew, and there are 345 confirmed cases of Covid-19 of 3,223 diagnostic tests applied.

A total quarantine may be adopted pending the evolution of the virus.
