Israeli embassies around the world shut down this Wednesday until further notice as diplomats strike over a dispute about paying taxes on overseas allowances.

“Due to the Israeli Finance Min. @Israel_MOF ‘s breaching of longstanding agreements with @IsraelMFA employees, we are forced to close Israeli missions around the world AS OF TODAY, OCTOBER 30,” the Israel Foreign Ministry tweeted.

Earlier this week, Israel’s Ministry of Finance announced its intention to tax foreign affairs employees on their overseas stipends and make them return money already reimbursed for expenses.

No consular services will be provided and no one will be allowed to enter the embassies or consulates.
