Vessels intending to transit the Panama Canal with previous ports of call in coronavirus countries must provide a 30-day notice prior to their arrival.

Information may be submitted through the Panama Canal Authority’s service portal, also known as Vumpa.

In a Jan. 29 notice sent to shipping companies, owners and operators, the authority says that this course of action is necessary to prevent the possible spread of the virus to Panama. Other measures include on board health inspections, outfitting ACP personnel in protective gear or quarantining the ship, among others.

According to the notice, coronavirus countries include China, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Germany, Macau, Hong Kong, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, United States, France and Australia.
