Just a day after announcing an expanded curfew, Panama implemented a complete and indefinite quarantine to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

People will be allowed out to gather food and medical supplies for staggered two-hour periods as determined by the last digit of their identity cards or passports. Seniors and people with disabilities have the designated 11 am and 1:00 pm time slot.

Exceptions will be made for outings required by medical emergency. The quarantine does not apply to the services and industries previously exempted from the curfew.

Security forces will deploy 18,000 agents to maintain public order.
