The cast and crew of Suicide Squad 2 are on location in Colon, the degenerate port city on Panama’s Atlantic coast.
Filming kicks off among the condemned and ramshackle buildings between 7th and 9th streets and Amador Guerrero and Justo Arosemena avenues.
In the radius are five churches, Casa Wilcox, the San Jose La Salle school, the Colon bakery, KFC, the Rey supermarket, Fonda el Inquieto and Restaurante Nueva China. Other areas in Barrio Norte and Barrio Sur will also be used as backdrops.
City officials have asked residents inconvenienced by the off-limits streets to understand that the Suicide Squad is injecting money into the down-and-out local economy. Production will hire some 1,000 extras, including Colon Mayor Alex Lee, at a cost of $75 to $100 per day and has blocked out rooms in hotels like the seen-better-days Melia Panama Canal.
The film, officially called The Suicide Squad and more of a reboot, stars Margot Robbie, John Cena, Pete Davidson, Idris Elba, Taka Waititi, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Peter Capaldi, Viola Davis and many others. It is set for release in cinemas in August 2021.
